Thailand limbers up for Phuket marathon
Travellers of a sporty disposition may want to consider going along to watch the fourth Laguana Phuket International Marathon in Thailand, due to be held on Sunday (June 14th).Over 4,000 runners will participate in the event, including 1,500 international athletes from more than 40 different countries.
There has been a 100 per cent increase in the number of participants since the race's inaugural event in 2006, with entries for this year up ten per cent on 2008.
Niyom Tassaneetipagorn, Laguna Phuket spokesperson, said: "A trip to Phang Nga province is an ideal opportunity to see the more traditional way of life in Thailand.
"This project is a golden opportunity for athletes to really experience the most from their marathon efforts."
Thailand was recently named the fasted-growing holiday destination for 2009 by Skyscanner, with Bangkok increasing in popularity by 271 per cent from last year.
