Celebrate Songkran in Bangkok

Next month will see revellers in Bangkok ringing in the Buddhist New Year with the traditional Songkran Festival.

The theme of the event is water and attendees are likely to get soaked throughout the day. The main activity takes place down Khao San Road, where the festivities last all night and day.

However, as the festival takes place at the hottest time of year, few people mind getting a cooling down courtesy of water guns and even buckets.

If water throwing is not your thing there are plenty of other, calmer, activities taking place, such as the bathing of the Buddha Sihing image in Sanam Luang Park.

The festival is celebrated between April 13th and 15th.

Anyone visiting Bangkok around this time may also wish to take in one of the city's monthly auctions, which provide the perfect opportunity for picking up some unusual souvenirs.

Held at the River City Shopping Complex's Riverside Auction House, the auctions see genuine antiques and traditional handicrafts from across Thailand being sold.
