Australia's Broken Hill Train station makes world top ten

Broken Hill train station in the outback of New South Wales has made it into a newspaper list of the top ten stations in the world.

The station is a stop-off on what is known as the most scenic train journey across Australia linking Sydney, Perth and Adelaide and was originally built in 1888 to serve the mining town, the Daily Mail reports.

Its main attraction for visitors on Australia holidays now is the two murals of steam trains bursting through the station walls, which look "scarily realistic".

The newspaper's Sarah Gordon said: "There are railway stations around the world that offer more than hot beverages and gloomy stationary stores.

"A select few are actually so nice they're almost part of your holiday."

Broken Hill is known as the 'capital' of the Australian outback and once had the world's richest deposits of precious metals lead, zinc and silver.
