Alice Springs gears up for bush sports weekend

The 62nd Harts Range Bush Sports Weekend takes place in Alice Springs from tomorrow (August 1st), which promises to entertain and exhaust travellers of all ages.

Held annually at the Harts Range Racecourse in the majestic East MacDonnells area, the event features gymkhana and stockhorse races as well as a range of sporting events.

There are also novelty events for all the family to join in with, such as the lizard race, the ladies' cow tail toss, high jump and tug 'o' war.

Visitors can also camp on the site and bring their own food or barbeques, or there will be on-site catering offered for those who would prefer to buy it on the day.

The Harts Range Amateur Race Club was founded in 1946 after three brothers decided to race their horses while they were working at the Ulgarna yard on Mount Riddock Station.

One of the other attractions of the East MacDonnell Ranges is the Trephina Gorge Nature Park, which offers many walking trails and camping areas.
